The course focuses on topics designed to save lives. The full course content is:
- Managing an unresponsive breathing casualty
- Managing an unresponsive non-breathing casualty
- Understanding the safe use of defibrillators
- Safe use of defibrillators
Assessment and Certification
Candidates are assessed during each practical activity. At the end of the course candidates will complete a multiple choice question paper. Each candidate must successfully complete both elements to pass the course.
On passing the basic life support & AED course each candidate will receive a certificate. These certificates are accredited through Highfield Qualifications and are valid for 3 years. After this the course must be retaken.
Who needs Basic Life Support and Defibrillator Training?
This course is ideal for those working in an organisation where a defibrillator is available. It is also suitable for those looking to purchase a defibrillator for their workplace.
Current first aiders can use the course as a refresher of resuscitation techniques learnt on courses such as Emergency First Aid at Work. This course also provides more in depth knowledge of using a defibrillator as well as what to look out for on your casualty.
